The thought of this film, tittled "Abducted Girl, An American Sex Salve", based on Dugards' years in captivity is appalling to say the least. Filmmaker (and I use that term loosely), Shane Ryan, would like to further exploit not only Jaycee Dugard but abused and missing children everywhere, while highlighting the horrific crimes and the monster responsible.
Simply said, a movie of this exploitative and hurtful nature is wrong. Whatever the reason for doing it, there is no justification for this kind of "entertainment", especially at the expense of child victims. As a community, as a society, addicted to knowing all the "dirty little details" of any travesty as it unfolds via news, Internet, and television or film, we should really be more interested in protecting our child victims, even as adults. A movie of this nature does not accomplish anything positive other than the chance of "cashing in" on one of the most horrific crimes against a child. We need to shelter victims from media predators (or any other predator for that matter) who prey on those who have been preyed upon before. We should be providing surviving victims and healing families with privacy and advocacy, not further exploit them and the atrocious crimes perpetrated against them for our own curious and/or selfish reasons.
Looking at the big picture, we need to provide Jaycee Dugard and her children with the same nurturing support, protection, and privacy we would want for our own children and grandchildren as they integrate into a world they barely know.
